How much does earwax removal in Stockport cost?
Our Cheadle Hulme booking system currently lists two different appointments:
- Ear Microsuction Initial Appointment: £10. Contact our team to arrange this if you need your ears checked first.
- Ear Microsuction – Removal Appointment: £60. This is the option in the calendar below, listed separately from the initial appointment.
- Our earwax removal service page advertises £60 for both ears.
- Before confirming, ask us whether the initial fee is separate or deducted from any removal charge.
- If you have already been assessed, contact us to check which appointment to book next.
The £10 initial appointment should not be read as the price for wax removal. Check the total with our team before treatment, including what happens if no wax is found or a further visit is needed.
Could blocked ears be caused by wax?
Wax is a normal part of your ear’s protection and usually works its way out. A build-up can leave your hearing muffled or your ear feeling blocked; it can also cause earache or ringing. These symptoms can have other causes, so an examination matters. Read the NHS advice on earwax build-up.
Do not wait for an earwax appointment if your hearing suddenly drops. Ask for an urgent GP appointment or contact NHS 111 if hearing suddenly changes, gets worse over days or weeks, or you have hearing loss with pain or discharge. The NHS explains when hearing changes need urgent help.
What happens during microsuction?
Microsuction uses a small suction tube to remove wax while the clinician looks inside your ear. It does not flush the ear with water. Our private earwax service uses microsuction, but we first need to check what is causing the blockage and whether treatment is suitable.
You may hear a fairly loud suction noise. Some people feel brief dizziness or discomfort, and accidental injury to the ear canal or eardrum is possible. Tell the clinician straight away if you feel uncomfortable, and stay still unless asked to move. Hull University Teaching Hospitals explains microsuction and its risks.
If the wax is too hard to remove comfortably, you may need drops and another appointment. Our team will explain the next step and any charges. We cannot promise that every blockage will clear in one visit.
How to prepare for your earwax appointment
Call us before starting drops if you have pain, discharge, a history of ear surgery or a known or suspected hole in your eardrum. Do not use ear drops if your eardrum is perforated. Our service page advises olive oil drops for seven days before removal; check with the team what is right for your ears and whether that applies before your initial assessment.
It helps to tell us:
- When the blockage or hearing change started and whether it affects one ear or both.
- Whether you have pain, discharge, ringing or dizziness.
- About previous ear surgery, grommets or a perforated eardrum.
- If you have had a recent ear infection or problems during earlier wax removal.
- Which ear drops you have used and for how long.
Before travelling to Cheadle Hulme:
- Check whether you have booked the initial assessment or the removal appointment.
- Keep the branch address and appointment confirmation handy.
- Bring the name of any drops you have been using.
- Write down questions about the procedure, costs or follow-up care.
- Contact us first if your symptoms have changed since you booked.
Looking after your ears afterwards
Avoid pushing cotton buds, fingers or other objects into your ear canal. They can push wax further in rather than remove it. Ear candles and home ear vacuums are not proven ways to clear wax. Ask our pharmacist about a suitable approach if build-up keeps returning.
Follow the advice you receive for your own ears. Clean around the outside gently; do not poke inside or use tissues to dry the canal. Guy’s and St Thomas’ ear-care guidance explains these everyday precautions.
If your hearing does not return after wax treatment, arrange a GP assessment. Wax removal will not fix every cause of hearing loss, and you may need a hearing test or further advice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book earwax removal in Stockport without knowing whether I have wax?
Start with an initial assessment at Cheadle Hulme Centre. Our team can check your ears and discuss the next step. If your hearing has suddenly changed, seek urgent medical advice instead of waiting for a routine appointment.
Does the £10 appointment include microsuction removal?
The booking system lists the £10 initial appointment separately from the £60 removal appointment. Please confirm the total with us before treatment; do not assume the initial fee includes removal.
Will microsuction be painful?
You may hear loud suction and sometimes feel discomfort or brief dizziness. Tell the clinician if anything hurts or you need a pause. We will explain the procedure and risks before you decide whether to go ahead.
Do I need a regular wax-removal appointment?
Not necessarily. Earwax is normal and does not need removing just because it is there. Ask our team for advice if it keeps causing problems, rather than booking repeat treatment on a fixed schedule.
