Where can I book earwax removal in Bolton?

Come to Everest Pharmacy, 188 Chorley Old Road, Bolton, BL1 3BG. The removal calendar below is set to this branch, so you can check times without searching through our other pharmacies. You can also call 01204 840925 to talk things through.

Before setting off, check the address in your confirmation. If you need help getting into the pharmacy or communicating during your visit, please tell us when arranging your appointment. You can find more information on our Chorley Old Road branch page.

What will I pay?

Earwax removal costs £60 for both ears. We also offer a separate £10 initial ear assessment if you need your ears checked first. The £10 fee covers the ear check; wax removal is a separate treatment. Call us to check whether its fee will come off the cost of later removal.

We allow 15 minutes for either appointment. If the wax is hard to remove, you may need more drops and another visit. Before treatment, ask about any charge if no wax is found or you need a follow-up. For more about the treatment, see our main earwax service page.

Blocked ears: what should I do first?

You might find yourself turning the television up, missing parts of conversations or noticing a full feeling in one ear. Wax can cause hearing problems, but an ear examination matters: other conditions can feel similar.

  • Not sure it is wax? Call our Bolton team about an initial assessment.
  • Already had your ears checked? Tell us what you were advised before choosing a removal appointment.
  • Using drops already? Tell us which ones and how long you have used them.
  • Still blocked after trying treatment? Ask for advice rather than pushing anything into your ear.
  • Booking for a child? Call first so we can check whether our service is suitable for them.

Sudden hearing loss needs urgent help. Ask for an urgent GP appointment or contact NHS 111 if you suddenly lose hearing, it worsens over days or weeks, or hearing loss comes with earache or discharge. Do not wait for a routine wax-removal slot. Read the NHS advice on hearing loss.

Before your Bolton earwax appointment

We usually ask you to soften the wax with olive oil ear drops for seven days before removal. Check with us before starting, especially if you have had ear problems before. Do not use drops if you have a hole in your eardrum. If you suspect a hole, or have pain or fluid coming from your ear, get advice first.

When you speak to us, mention:

  • When your symptoms began and whether one ear or both are affected.
  • Any previous ear operations, grommets or eardrum damage.
  • Recent ear infections, dizziness, or ringing in your ears.
  • Medicines you take, including blood thinners.
  • Any discomfort or other problems during earlier earwax treatment.

There is no need to try to scoop wax out before coming in. Cotton buds can push it further down. The NHS earwax guide explains safe self-care and when to seek help.

What does microsuction feel like?

Microsuction removes wax through a fine suction tube while the clinician watches inside your ear. It does not wash your ear out with water. We check your ears and discuss whether treatment is right for you before going ahead.

The suction can sound loud. You may feel discomfort or brief dizziness. There is also a risk of grazing or bleeding, and rarely infection, ringing in the ears (tinnitus) or a change in hearing. Tell the clinician if it hurts or you need to cough or move, so they can pause. UCLH explains microsuction and its risks.

After your appointment:

  • Follow the advice given for your own ears.
  • Leave the ear canal alone; do not put cotton buds or fingers inside.
  • Tell us if you develop pain, discharge or other concerns.
  • See your GP if your hearing has not returned after wax treatment.
  • Ask about the next step if some wax remains, including the cost of another visit.

Removing wax helps when wax is the problem. It cannot treat every cause of hearing loss, and you do not need routine removal just because your ears produce wax.

Questions about earwax removal in Bolton

Can I book for today?

Check the calendar for available times at Chorley Old Road. If you have not softened the wax or had your ears checked, call us first. We can help you decide whether an assessment or removal appointment makes sense.

Is the £60 price for one ear or both?

It covers both ears. A separate initial assessment costs £10. Speak to our team about how that fee applies if you go on to have treatment, and about any follow-up charges.

Will I hear better straight away?

You may notice clearer hearing once a wax blockage is removed, but we cannot promise that result. If your hearing stays reduced, see your GP to check for another cause.

Can I come in if I wear hearing aids?

Yes, you can contact us about an ear assessment. Tell us you wear hearing aids when you book. We will check your ears and discuss what is suitable before any removal.
