Thinking about a chickenpox vaccine in Manchester?
We offer the private chickenpox vaccine in Manchester at our Whalley Range pharmacy, at £70 per dose. If you have never had chickenpox, or you are unsure about your vaccination history, our pharmacist can help you work out whether vaccination is right for you.
This guide is mainly for adults considering a private appointment. If you are asking for a child, check the NHS options below and call our team before booking.

How much does the chickenpox vaccine in Manchester cost?
Our chickenpox vaccine costs £70 per dose. If you need two doses, the vaccines cost £140. We will confirm your course and total cost, including any consultation charge, before treatment.
A travel health consultation costs £10. If your appointment is not for travel, call 0161 227 8106 to check which consultation you need. You can also read about our travel clinic and vaccine prices.
A chickenpox vaccination course usually involves two doses, four to eight weeks apart. The timing depends on the vaccine and your circumstances. Bring any previous vaccination records so we can check what you still need.
- Check whether an NHS option applies before paying.
- Tell us about any previous chickenpox vaccination.
- Ask for the total cost of your course.
- Check the date for your second dose with our pharmacist.
- Keep your vaccination record after each visit.
Can you get a chickenpox vaccine on the NHS?
Some people can. The NHS offers chickenpox vaccination to certain people who have not had chickenpox or a full vaccine course and have close contact with someone at risk of serious illness. Healthcare workers should ask their employer about occupational health vaccination. Read the NHS chickenpox vaccine guidance before booking privately.
For young children, the NHS now offers chickenpox protection through the MMRV vaccine, which also protects against measles, mumps and rubella. Routine and catch-up appointments depend on the child’s date of birth. Your GP can check their record and explain what they are due.
The older MMR vaccine does not include chickenpox protection. If you only remember having “the MMR”, check your record rather than assuming you have already had a chickenpox vaccine.
Is private chickenpox vaccination right for you?
You may not remember whether you had chickenpox as a child. Tell us what you know; a blood test may sometimes help check whether you are already immune. Vaccination helps protect against chickenpox, but it cannot guarantee that you will never catch it.
The chickenpox vaccine is a live vaccine. It is not suitable during pregnancy and may not be suitable if your immune system is weakened. Avoid becoming pregnant for one month after the last dose. Our pharmacist will check your health and medicines before offering vaccination.
Recently been near someone with chickenpox? If you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system, contact NHS 111 urgently for advice. Do not wait for a routine private appointment. If you develop a rash or think you have chickenpox, phone ahead before visiting any healthcare setting. See the NHS advice on chickenpox.
