Arrange your typhoid vaccine in Bolton before you travel
We offer the private typhoid vaccine in Bolton at our Chorley Old Road pharmacy, at £40 per dose. Planning a holiday, a work trip or a visit to family abroad? We can check whether you need vaccination and help you fit it around your departure date.
Typhoid vaccination is also available free through the NHS when recommended for travel. Check with your GP before paying privately. If you prefer to visit us, you can book directly without a GP referral.

How much does a typhoid vaccine in Bolton cost?
Our typhoid vaccination costs £40 per dose. A travel health consultation costs £10. We’ll confirm which appointment you need and your total cost before treatment. For more about our service and other vaccine prices, visit our travel clinic page.
If you’re considering the free NHS option, ask your GP surgery about a travel risk assessment. The NHS offers typhoid vaccination for travel where it’s recommended. Read the NHS travel vaccination guidance to understand your options.
Before choosing an appointment:
- Check your departure date so we know how much time you have.
- Ask your GP about NHS vaccination if you want to use that route.
- Find the date of any previous typhoid vaccine; you may not need another yet.
- Tell us if you have already had a travel health assessment.
- Call us before booking for a child so we can check the options for their age.
When should you book before your trip?
Try to arrange travel health advice four to six weeks before departure. That gives you time to review your vaccinations and plan any other protection you need. The injected typhoid vaccine should be given at least two weeks before travel to an area where you could catch typhoid.
If you leave sooner, call 01204 840925 with your travel dates. We can discuss what is still possible. A last-minute injection does not give immediate protection.
For the standard injected vaccine, you usually have one dose. If you remain at risk, another dose is generally needed after three years. Bring your vaccination record so our pharmacist can check the right timing for you.
Do you need vaccination for this journey?
Typhoid spreads through contaminated food and water. Where you’re going, how long you’ll stay and what you’ll do there all affect your risk. We’ll talk through your itinerary rather than assume every traveller needs the same vaccines.
If you’re visiting friends or relatives abroad, let us know. Returning to a familiar place does not remove the risk of infection. Staying with family, eating locally and making a longer visit can all matter when planning your travel health advice.
Typhoid vaccination does not cover every illness caught through food or water. It does not protect against paratyphoid, a separate infection. Our pharmacist can explain which other precautions matter for your trip.
Your appointment at Chorley Old Road
You’ll find us at 188 Chorley Old Road, Bolton, BL1 3BG. See our Chorley Old Road branch page for the map and opening times. The vaccination appointment allows 15 minutes; leave extra time for any observation our pharmacist advises afterwards.
Please bring or have ready:
- Your itinerary, including departure and return dates.
- Your previous vaccination record, if you have it.
- A list of medicines and supplements you take.
- Details of allergies or serious reactions to previous vaccines.
- Information about any pregnancy, breastfeeding or treatment affecting your immune system.
We’ll check your health and explain the vaccine before you decide whether to go ahead. If you have a fever or feel unwell on the day, phone before setting off. We may need to rearrange.
A sore arm, tiredness or muscle aches can happen after the injection. Read the leaflet you receive and ask our pharmacist if you’re unsure about aftercare. Seek emergency help by calling 999 for breathing difficulties or swelling of the mouth or throat.
Food and water care still matters
Vaccination lowers your risk, but it does not protect everyone. While you’re away:
- Wash your hands before eating and after using the toilet.
- Use sealed bottled water or properly boiled water for drinking and brushing your teeth.
- Choose food that is freshly cooked and served hot.
- Peel fruit yourself and avoid salads washed in water you cannot trust.
- Skip ice if you’re unsure what water was used to make it.
If you feel unwell after travelling to an area with typhoid, contact NHS 111 and mention your trip, even if you were vaccinated. If you’re still abroad, get medical help there rather than waiting until you return. Read the NHS advice on typhoid fever.
Your typhoid vaccination questions
Can I have a typhoid vaccine if I’ve had one before?
Yes, you may need another dose if you’re still at risk. Tell us when you last had it and which vaccine you received, if you know. We’ll check whether a booster is due before you pay for another vaccination.
Can I book for my child?
Call our Bolton team with your child’s age and travel dates first. We’ll explain whether we can help at Chorley Old Road and which appointment to choose. Your GP can also advise about NHS travel vaccination.
Do I need the injection or the capsules?
Both types of typhoid vaccine exist, but they have different instructions and suitability checks. If you’re unsure, speak to our pharmacist before choosing. The calendar below is for the Typhoid Vaccine appointment, not the separate capsule appointment.
Can I get advice about other vaccines at the same time?
Yes. Tell us your full travel plans so we can review what else you may need. If you need a wider travel consultation, call us and we’ll help you book the right visit.
