When to have your flu jab in Sheffield

Autumn or early winter is a good time to have your flu vaccination. If you haven’t arranged yours yet, you can check our available Sheffield appointments below. There’s no need to wait until everyone around you is ill. The UKHSA’s autumn flu guide explains the timing.

A flu vaccine usually takes up to 14 days to work. It cannot prevent every case, but it can make flu milder if you catch it. Protection fades, and the vaccine changes with the circulating strains, so last year’s jab does not replace this season’s vaccination.

We allow five minutes for the booked appointment. Please leave extra time for arriving, discussing any concerns and following our aftercare advice. If you’re nervous about injections, tell us when you arrive. You can ask us to explain each step.

Could you have your flu jab free on the NHS?

Check before paying. You may qualify because of your age, pregnancy, a health condition or caring responsibilities. Other groups qualify too. The NHS flu vaccine guidance has the full current list.

If you qualify, use the NHS booking route or contact your GP surgery. The White Lane calendar here is for paid private appointments. If your employer offers flu vaccinations, ask how to arrange yours through work before booking separately. If you have an employer voucher, call us before booking to check whether you can use it.

Before your appointment at White Lane

You don’t need to arrive knowing which vaccine you need. Our pharmacist will check that the vaccination is right for you. Please tell us:

  • If you have already had a flu vaccine this season.
  • About any serious reaction to a previous vaccination.
  • About allergies, including an egg allergy.
  • Which medicines you take and any health conditions you have.
  • If you are pregnant, could be pregnant or feel unwell.

Wear something that lets you uncover your upper arm easily. Bring a medicine list if that’s easier than remembering the names. We’ll explain the vaccine and ask for your consent before going ahead.

A sore arm, mild aches or a slight temperature can follow the injection and usually settle in one or two days. The injected vaccine cannot give you flu. Follow the advice you receive and contact us if you’re worried about how you feel afterwards.

Your Sheffield flu vaccination questions

Can I have my jab if I have a cold?

A minor cold does not usually mean you need to cancel. If you have a high temperature, wait until you feel better. Call White Lane before setting off if you’re unsure.

Can I turn up without an appointment?

Please book a time first. If you’d like to visit without booking, call 0114 239 6174 so we can check whether we can see you. Don’t assume a walk-in appointment will be available.

Can I book for someone else?

Check the booking details carefully and use the information of the person having the vaccination. If you need help arranging their visit, call us. For anyone under 18, speak to the branch before making a booking.

Do I need to come to Sheffield city centre?

No. This appointment is at our White Lane pharmacy in Gleadless, S12 3GL. Check that location on your confirmation, even if another Everest branch is closer to you.
