Your pre-travel appointment checklist in Oldham

Our travel clinic in Oldham offers private consultations at 57 Manchester Road, OL8 4LN. Whether you are planning a winter holiday or heading abroad to see family, we can help you work out what to arrange before leaving. A travel consultation costs £10; vaccines and medicines cost extra.

A little preparation makes it easier to talk through your plans. Use this checklist to gather the details we need and the questions you want answered.

When should I contact the travel clinic in Oldham?

Aim to get advice at least four to six weeks before departure. That gives you time to plan any vaccine doses and allow protection to develop. If you are pregnant or have a long-term condition, speak to your usual healthcare team earlier too.

Leaving sooner? Call 0161 624 5485 and tell us your departure date. Advice can still help, even when there is little time. We will explain what can realistically be arranged; an appointment does not guarantee that every vaccine course can be completed before your flight. Read TravelHealthPro’s advice on preparing for travel.

Five things to bring to your Oldham travel appointment

You do not need to know which vaccines to choose before coming in. Start with your plans and let us help you work through them.

  • Your full route. Include countries you pass through, not just your final destination.
  • Your dates. Bring your departure and return dates, and say if you will be away for several weeks or months.
  • Where you will stay and what you will do. A hotel break, rural stay and trip visiting relatives can involve different risks.
  • Your vaccination records. Bring any previous travel certificates or records you have. Ask your GP or check the NHS App if you are unsure.
  • Your health details. Bring your medicine list and tell us about allergies, pregnancy, immune-system problems or past vaccine reactions.

Jot down questions on your phone as they come to mind. For example, you might need to fit another visit around work, or want to understand why a vaccine has been suggested. The NHS travel vaccination guide is a useful starting point.

Going somewhere you have visited before?

Tell us when you last went and whether this trip will be different. Perhaps you are staying longer, travelling beyond the city or taking a child for the first time. We can review your plans alongside your previous vaccinations.

Do not assume you are still protected against malaria because you grew up in a country where it occurs. People who now live in the UK can still be at risk when they return. Ask about prevention for your exact route, including tablets if needed and ways to avoid mosquito bites. See the NHS malaria guidance.

If you become feverish or unwell during a trip to a malaria-risk area, seek medical help there. After returning, ask for an urgent GP appointment or call 111 if you have malaria symptoms and visited a risk country within the past year. Tell them where you travelled.

Make a separate plan for your regular medicines

Travel vaccines are only one part of getting ready. If you take regular medicines, start organising them well before your trip:

  • Check that you have enough for your stay and possible delays.
  • Keep medicines in their original pharmacy packaging.
  • Take a copy of your prescription and ask about a letter from your prescriber.
  • Check the rules for every country you enter or pass through.
  • Plan how to store medicines that need a particular temperature.

Rules can apply to medicines bought over the counter as well as prescriptions. For more help, read TravelHealthPro’s medicines guide and check the relevant FCDO country advice. Your usual prescriber can help with your ongoing treatment.

Before you leave our Oldham travel clinic

We want you to understand the next steps. These are useful questions to work through together:

  • Which vaccines or other precautions do you recommend for my trip?
  • How many doses would I need, and when should I return?
  • What will the whole course cost, including the consultation?
  • Do I need a certificate, and when would it become valid?
  • What should I do if my travel dates change?

Our £10 consultation fee is separate from vaccines, which we charge per dose. You can check individual prices on our main travel service page. Ask us to confirm the total before going ahead.

Some travel vaccines are available free through your GP after assessment. Check your NHS options before paying privately.

Travel clinic Oldham: your questions

Can I book if I have not chosen my vaccines?

Yes. Choose a travel consultation and bring your itinerary. You can discuss what you need with us instead of trying to choose from a vaccine list yourself.

Can we book as a family?

Call us first with everyone’s ages and your travel dates. We will help arrange suitable appointments and check what we can offer each person. Please do not assume one 15-minute booking covers the whole family.

Will I get my vaccines at the first visit?

It depends on what you need, what is suitable for you and availability. If you need a particular vaccine or certificate, call before booking so we can help you plan.
